Layer: Heat Vulnerability Index (ID: 10)

Name: Heat Vulnerability Index

Display Field: SA1_MAIN16

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: This polygon dataset has been produced to monitor areas for vulnerability to heat using a heat vulnerability index (HVI) for the Significant Urban Area of the Sydney Greater Metropolitan Area for the summer season of 2015-2016. HVI utilises indicators of exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity for calculating overall heat vulnerability index. The heat vulnerability index (HVI) is represented by a scale of 1 to 5 based on quintiles, with 1 representing low exposure, low sensitivity or high adaptive capacity and 5 representing high exposure, high sensitivity or low adaptive capacity. The calculation of HVI is explained. This has been integrated with Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Statistical Area Level 1 (SA1) polygon dataset to enable spatial analysis to support local policy and decision making. It can be used in conjunction with the NSW urban vegetation cover dataset for the same time period for broader analysis of the relationship of heat to green cover.
